AARP Goes Young
AARP continues to march toward a brand association with a younger and younger demographic. This time it’s 40+ women. Now celebrating two years since it launched, The Girlfriend has a sassy tone you may notice from the Skimm.
In our market report “Understanding the 50+ Worker” we uncovered a pattern, that although they’re in the demographic, our audience had negative feelings about AARP, with most saying they thought AARP was “for old people” and focused too much on things like health tips and senior discounts, when income continuity is top of mind for them.
With The Girlfriend and other initiatives underway we predict the organization will continue marketing to younger and younger audiences. Will GenX audiences find some brand love before they reach the age when that AARP membership application arrives in the mail?
