Modern Workplace Tools: Google Docs

You’ve told us that staying current with modern workplace tools is vital to compete in today’s workplace. We gathered some great “getting started” videos and tutorials of our favorite tools as well as a simple course to learn Zoom.
We’re partnering with Age Without Borders, and Startup Decoder to build out courses and video guides around topics related to work after 50 and financial health.
Here we’ll introduce GSuite (including Google Docs). We introduced Slack, and then take a quick tutorial on using video platform Zoom.

GSuite
GSuite is Google’s family of workplace tools. If you’re a fan of Gmail, Android or Google Home, you’ll soon see how the complete ecosystem is connected.
- Integrated across tools: Gmail, Google Docs (text, spreadsheets, presentations, forms, etc.), Google Drive Calendar, and Notes (Keep)
- Everything is highly searchable (Google knows search).
- Great cross-platform tools, desktop, Chrome browser, mobile, and voice.
- Multiple collaborators are possible with defined roles (editor, commenter, etc.)
Get a Gmail Account
We’ll begin with Google Docs as many of the concepts carry onto the other tools. You’ll need a Google account. It’s easy to create and then you’ll have a Gmail account which will serve as your starting point for logging into the work you do across GSuite. Get a Gmail account.
Google Docs Getting Started Tutorial
With Google Docs, you can create and edit text documents right in your web browser—no special software is required. Even better, multiple people can work at the same time, you can see people’s changes as they make them, and every change is saved automatically.
