Creativity in a Lockdown

newsletter banner 120820

Boy, oh, boy, these erratic lockdown messages have thrown us all in an endless ball of confusion. Trying to move forward with your plans can seem as slow as walking through mud these days.

We’re always looking for the best advice to make your next move your best yet. But, it can’t be all hard work, especially now. Sometimes taking a creative retreat with yourself will open up new vistas.

This week we feature two of our favorite inspirations for some eye-opening discovery through creative expression. Have fun.

Linda Barry Is Laughing All The Way
Cartoonist, author, and in-demand instructor, Linda Barry, is best known for her weekly comic strip Ernie Pook’s Comeek. Her blog is a stream of inspired drawings and collages from her classes and notebooks.

A good introduction to her work is Making Comics – an idiosyncratic curriculum from a 2019 MacArthur Fellow that will teach you how to draw and write your story.

Drawing On The Right Side Of Your Brain
When Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain was first published in 1979, it hit the New York Times bestseller list within two weeks and stayed there for more than a year. In 1989, when Dr. Betty Edwards revised the book, it went straight to the Times list again. Now Dr. Edwards celebrates the twentieth anniversary of her classic book with a second revised edition.

This edition includes:

  • using drawing techniques in the corporate world and in education
  • instruction on self-expression through drawing
  • detailed information on using the five basic skills of drawing for problem-solving
