Everything started with Jeff speaking at a TechInclusion conference, where he noticed that tech diversity and inclusion programs did not usually include age as a factor.
Discussing ageism is not something people are willing to talk about. This topic exposes people, and even though we all agree we need to fight ageism, not everyone is in a position to have that fight. They need to stay working, catch up from the last recession, and are often kids returning with debt and taking care of aging parents.
Next For Me: A Guide to Startups for Dreamers
Carole and Jeff just published the book Next For Me: A Guide to Startups for Dreamers.
The first part is about the philosophical center. The second part is about mindset.
Jeff discusses using Oblique Strategy cards, which are techniques to pull out creativity out of people.
The third part is the tactical side – how to take care of yourself and how to be a “hacker”. This is not about being technical but rather about using free or low-cost tools to keep investment low.
Key points include:
‘Always publishing’ is a key strategy.
How to say no to people so you can use your time more efficiently.
Start selling from day one.
Exercises are included at the end of each section.
Carole and Jeff encourage you not to be afraid. This process is fun and meaningful but you have to have an open mind.
