As we all seem to be putting off retirement, we’re looking online for career help, job listings and to build our personal brand. We know that social media isn’t just for narcissistic twenty-somethings to post selfies, it’s a place where we can showcase our work, discover the latest info about our field, and network.
If you’re ready to put yourself out there on social media, but don’t know where to start, we’ve put together a five-part guide for finding the platform that’s right for you, building your online presence, and getting the most out of your time there. If you’re already on social media but are concerned you’re not “doing it right”, we have some tips for you, too.
Carole McManus, co-founder of Next for Me, created this guide for building your personal brand on social media in response to a common concern among her older colleagues that they either didn’t know how to get started with social media, or that they weren’t “doing it right”. She is a marketing and social media strategist with a history of building some of the most successful online communities on the Web, including Yahoo! and BabyCenter. She’s currently Director of Digital Marketing for CatCon and on the Board of Directors of the WELL, which Wired magazine called “the world’s most influential online community”.
